Understanding Employee

                  Motivation Factors

Text Box: Dr. Abraham Maslow's' “Hierarchy Theory of Human Needs and Motivation”, often represented graphically by a pyramid indicates that until a persons basic needs are satisfied, that person can not be motivated to higher achievement. Your organization provides your employees basic level one needs; food, water, clothing, and shelter, with employment. Your organization provides your employees basic level two needs with employee benefits, which provide the feeling of protection against the unforeseen.

In combination they set up the foundation for positive motivation and the achievement of new higher goals. Dr. Maslow’s research confirmed that those goals can be motivated by appealing to the individuals need for affiliation and self esteem (recognition). Employee recognition and incentives are a tool that can help you motivate your employees to achieve their potential.

Frederick Herzberg's' research defined prime factors looks at elements that both motivate employee achievement and created dissatisfaction in the work environment. His research found that one of the easiest to control factors affecting job satisfaction was recognition for a job well done. Positive motivation is a powerful tool.
